What's new from April 2008?

As usual, there are many changes to the UK tax system. Some are for the better, promising to help simplfy our overly complicated tax laws. Others, such as a new style tax return, are definitely open to debate. The sections below will outline just what the changes could mean for you.

Changes to tax rates and allowances

From April 2008, there has been a reduction in the Basic Rate of tax, and the lowest rate will be removed entirely. There are other changes to be noted also.

Waiters and bar staff across the country will welcome an employment appeal tribunal ruling that means tips will no longer count towards the minimum wage. This should help some of the poorest earners in the country.
